We will return to 2024, the year when AI entered the martech stack.

Generative AI, in particular, has quickly emerged in a wide range of martech applications.

In fact, as the martech landscape expanded to more than 14,000 new applications in 2024, 77% of the 3,068 new tools introduced this year are based on generative AI.

Each year, the Annual MarTech Replacement Survey asks the marketing community about which MarTech solutions they have replaced over the past 12 months.

Over the past few years, the survey has identified a number of interesting trends:

  • Marketing automation platforms are the most replaced martech application for three years in a row, as we launch the 2024 survey.
  • A growing number of replacements (more than a third in 2023) aim to improve the customer experience.
  • Commercial applications continue to replace on-premises solutions.

In the year since the 2023 survey launched, we have seen continued layoffs, particularly in the technology sector.

Marketers and marketing operations professionals who participated in MarTech’s most recent Salary and Career Survey identified decreased job satisfaction, a focus on demonstrating the value of their work and resources limited.
